What: Monday, January 20, 2020 will mark what would've been the 91st birthday of civil rights activist and American leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In honor of this iconic holiday, you're invited to join MOSCDC for a visit to a place where all Americans can learn about the richness and diversity of the African American experience, what it means to our lives, and how it helped us shape this nation: the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C.
Museum highlights include: Harriet Tubman's hymnal; Nat Turner’s bible; A plantation cabin from South Carolina; Guard tower from Angola Prison; Michael Jackson's fedora; and works by prolific artists such as Charles Alston, Elizabeth Catlett, Romare Bearden, and Henry O. Tanner.
As there is so much to see and we want you to feel free to come and go as you please, this experience will be self-guided. Members who are interested in enjoying lunch together as well are encouraged to visit the Sweet Home Cafe, an on-site restaurant which features the very best version of classic dishes and employs a high degree of from-scratch cooking with locally-sourced ingredients.
